October 01, 2018, Nigerian Independence day was a very remarkable day for the Community leaders, Parents and kids (ages of 3 – 12 years) of Gbara Community, despite the discontinuous drizzling all day.
The community is located right behind Jakande Bus Stop, with a connecting footbridge to Circle Mall all along Lekki-Epe express way. The event was staged right at the heart of the community.
Apparently, CRCi was on ground to celebrate the independence day on one hand and to activate the Open Book campaign on the other hand. The duo objectives were quite successful as CRCi brought in seasoned volunteers from top media house and founders of other acclaimed NGOs to match the turnout of over Eighty (80) Children and some of their parents.
The children were inspired and motivated to develop active reading habits. They were given nuggets on creative ways to achieve this objective as individuals in a fun-filled atmosphere. Some children volunteered to step up to a reading challenge posed, of which some won gifts, majorly brand new colourful story books.
